It is easy to see why photographers get so busy in the Fall! Trees ablaze with color and leaves fallen to the forest floor make for some pretty awesome backdrops! Families especially love to book sessions this time of year. I had several one year old/family sessions this Fall season. We had such beautiful weather this year, that the season was able to be stretched longer than usual. Meaning we were able to get sessions in without having cold fingers and noses. Even leaves held off dropping completely a little later than usual! This was great since, this year I had many families with little ones to photograph!
When choosing what to wear for portraits in the Fall- keep in mind the many colors and textures you may have in your background. So choose solid colors or simple patterns. Choosing colors that can coordinate with autumn is good. You do not have to match, but blend together. Mustards, blues, and muted reds or berries are all good choices. Choose beige or cream rather than white, as white can wash people out and stand out a bit too much with Fall colors in the background.
Also, when doing fall family portraits, remember to have some fun with them. Play in the leaves a bit. Walk down a road draping with leaves like a canopy. Genuine smiles, make for beautiful portraits!
